From Pandemic to War to Humanitarian Crisis – Responses in Music

The sheer stupid insanity of which we as a species are capable is, quite literally, incredible. Recently a dear friend and colleague, the UK based violinist Enrico Alvares responded to this stupidity by masterminding a remarkable concert to raise money for the International Rescue Committee. The IRC provides vital Humanitarian aid to refugees throughout the world. Many of the UK’s finest orchestral and chamber musicians took part in this memorable event that continues to raise money through online donations.

One of the works we performed was Mozart Symphony No. 40. Written in 1788 at the time of the Austro-Turkish and Russo-Swedish wars and at a  time of intense personal crisis for Mozart it resonates powerfully with our times. Here’s the third movement – if it speaks to you musically and you would like to donate to the IRC please see the link below. Thank you!
